The odyssey of Ian’s illness seems to have run its course. He’s at about 75%. He should be ready for tomorrow. We’ve started “Elf” upstairs. “Scrooge” will follow. But today has been about Tammy and I catching up on all of the stuff we were supposed to have done this week. That includes: finishing shopping for Christmas, last Christmas (Boxing Day) supper ingredients, making the gingerbread house and monkey bread, and wrapping presents.
Whew.
But first, here’s the belated photo from Tammy’s Christmas party at Milestones on Stephen Avenue.
Clockwise, from Tammy: Simon, Edwina, George (Kyoko’s husband), Kyoko, Zheniya, Robert (Zheniya’s husband), Andrew, Kevin (Tammy’s departed manager), Peggy, Marvinn and Lesley.
And here is the gingerbread house in an state of construction.
This year was a bit of a fight to get the house made. I did it from scratch, like last year, but this year I also made the royal icing from scratch. The tough part about that was making it stiff, but not so stiff as to be impossible to squeeze with a piping bag. I also followed online advice: score the rolled out dough, then bake it, and then break along the scoring. Ha! All that accomplished was busting up two walls and the chimney, so I got to make another batch. 😣
The kids did a fine job of putting the candy on. And Tammy was very creative, making the marzipan snowmen.
Merry Christmas to all. 🎄
Love the gingerbread house!
