Time will tell the significance of today’s event. Will it be the start of our return to normal? Or will it be a false hope?

Regardless, Canada Day marked the point where all of us have been fully vaccinated. Ian and Miranda got their second Pfizer shots.

And Miranda’s turn

With the heat and the unknowns of how busy the train would be on Canada Day, Tammy dropped the kids and I off near the Calgary Tower. We walked the block to the Telus Convention Centre. There was no line up to speak of. We walked right in and up to the point where we got masks and into the coloured lines. For the fourth straight time, we were in the red line.

It was uneventful. Miranda reported that the needle hurt this time, but it was over super quick. We’ll see if the kids have any side effects besides a sore arm.

We stopped by Michaels and then picked up pizza at Mitillini’s on the way home. At Miranda’s suggestion, we played Uno and then Exploding Kittens after supper. It was a way for us all to be in the A/C.

We are coming to the end of the heat wave. It should only get into the high twenties today. A massive thunderstorm rolled through to the north of us last night and we’re expecting more today.

In other news, we’ve gotten a quote for solar panel installation. It’s been something that I’ve kept an eye on for years, but it’s always been too expensive. But the price of solar panels have fallen dramatically and recently the Canadian government announced the Greener Homes Grant for retrofitting energy saving features on homes. Solar panels apply, so it could knock $5000 off the price. We’ve applied successfully to the plan and will start walking through the process. In the end, we might almost be electricity-neutral. It wouldn’t be energy-neutral, because about half our budget is natural gas (hot water, furnace). I think it’s exciting.

Updated

Miranda came through without any real side-effects from the shot, but Ian was laid low the next day. Headache, tired, nausea and finally diarrhea. But he’s doing fine now.

  1. Glad the kids have gotten their shots!! Sounds interesting with the solar panels, good selling feature for the house later on.

  2. Fabulous about the fully vaccinated! Question regarding the solar panels (more of a suggestion maybe) is there a cover for when weather is bad? I know you guys get the hail storms

    1. The panels are hail resistant and warrantied. They’re tougher than the shingles.
