Happy 15th Birthday, Ian!

Today marks 15 years since there was a wave of amniotic fluid big enough to surf on in the delivery theatre in Victoria General Hospital, and out of the muck crawled an enormous, redheaded baby.

😜

It’s a summer Thursday. Miranda didn’t work today, but Tammy and I did. We got up and had breakfast and Ian opened his cards from Grandpa, Baba & Grandpa and Auntie Stephanie. Ian got a special breakfast: frozen waffles with Neapolitan ice cream and a (stale) Timbit.

Ian didn’t give us any hints for gifts this year, so he got the equivalent of underwear but better: some new cycling kit. We also got him his first shaver. That upper lip is starting to hide behind a very light-coloured moustache.

Ian and Miranda chose to be in the A/C today and watch some movies. I heard they watched The Darjeeling Limited and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Darjeeling was the inspiration for Miranda’s birthday card for Ian.

Later in the morning, they caught the C-Train to Crowfoot and got ice caps from Tim Hortons. Lunch was hot wings. Tammy had cooked them up the night before, but Ian and I had a bike ride so they were… inappropriate. They were great for lunch today!

Dinner was shawarma from Pita Basket. Ian’s choice of birthday cake was a dessert pizza, handmade by Tammy. The crust is a massive chocolate cookie with Reese’s Pieces in it, and the toppings are Reese’s Pieces ice cream, Reese’s mini cups, more Reese’s Pieces, chocolate syrup and peanut butter.

Now Ian and Miranda are pondering another movie to watch.

On Saturday, Ian had his friends Josh and Joey over for a “birthday party”. At Ian’s request, it ended up being “chill”. They played video games (Minecraft LAN party), watched YouTube, played ping pong, played frisbee over in the park, etc. Dinner was BBQ hamburgers. There was still a full half of the ice cream pizza left over, so that got pressed into action along with fruit shish kabobs for dessert.
