Happy 20th Birthday, Miranda

It’s unfathomable. It cannot be fathomed.

Space Dad, Megamind

Our girl Miranda turned 20 today. She’s a young woman who’s got a mind full of ideas and a plan for where she’s going. I think 2024 is going to be a big year for her.

Because she’s a New Year’s baby, we always get to wish her a happy birthday on New Year’s Eve when the clock strikes twelve. Our New Year’s Eve this year was good, with an appy/charcuterie dinner, while watching an episode of Netflix’s Life on our Planet. It’s a really good documentary on prehistoric life, we’ve been enjoying them. After that, we watched the final episode of Ghosts. I didn’t realize that it was actually the series finale, so that was a surprise. It was good and touching. Afterwards, we sat down to what would become our most epic game of Uno ever. The game went 23 rounds, with so many changes in the positions. I had to extend my spreadsheet just to handle it. Even Mr. Murphy got into the action.

The evening was 2 degrees and with a light rain, of all things. It’s really been a warm December. We’ll pay for it in January, I’m sure. We stayed up until midnight and then wished each other Happy New Year, wished Miranda Happy Birthday, and then hit the hay. After all, the cats would be marauding for breakfast by about 6:30 the next morning.

Breakfast was a hastily-organized batch of waffles, with Prosecco & OJ for the grownups. Miranda opened prezzies and cards. It was a great time, with the cats running around chasing springs at the same time. One of her presents was an “IOU”: she only made up her mind about a Swatch after Christmas, and this one needs to be shipped from Switzerland. We printed out a paper cutout and wrapped that. 😇

We Skyped with Colin and Carol at 10, and FaceTimed with Stephanie and family in the afternoon. Grandpa was the usual evening call. It was great to see and hear everyone and wish them Happy New Year.

Tammy and I got some exercise done and then Tammy went about assembling Miranda’s birthday cake. It was going to be a birthday lunch from Fusion Sushi in Ranchlands. Previous years, we’d gone to Sushi & Kitchen in Signal Hill, but they changed their menu and we tried something new. It was delicious, and each person really got two full meals’ worth of food.

We ate our cake while watching the Barbie movie, which was really good. That was followed by a bit of downtime, which of course involved our furry babies.

Pip being Pip

Some Minecraft was followed by a leftovers dinner and then we played three rounds of Miranda’s new game.

All in all, it was a nice relaxed birthday day for Miranda. Happy Birthday to you! 🎂
