Not the best way to begin 2024. We’ve been dealing with a cold or something that’s been going through our family over Christmas. Tammy and Ian have had it the longest and the worst. Both of them tested negative for COVID early on. Yesterday, Tammy complained that she was feeling worse, not better. This evening we tested her for COVID, and it came back a strong positive. We re-tested to be sure, and then tested Ian (positive) and Miranda (positive) and me (negative).

That turned this evening into a game of what are we supposed to do? I’m not positive, but given the amount of time that I spent with Tammy yesterday and today, it’s stupid to think it’s not a matter of time. But for the moment, I’ve set up on the futon in the basement. I’ll be the medical care until the inevitable happens and I succumb too.

Miranda’s pissed. 😡 If anything, she’s feeling better than she had been. She was going to start her university term tomorrow. She’ll be sending me to go get her books.

In 2022, I was the only one who got COVID. Now, I’m the only one without??? If I don’t get it, we can thank the fact that I was the only one back to work last week.

Updated Tuesday

No change. Family still sick, I’m fine. Miranda still asymptomatic. I am starting to think that maybe I was the originator. When I had my “cold” after Christmas, Miranda followed with the same symptoms. What if I had COVID, passed it to Miranda, and I’ve recovered, and Miranda’s recovering? If I stay clear and Miranda continues to improve that might explain it.

Updated Again Tuesday

Miranda is now clear. This is supporting my thesis that I was first and recovered.

Updated Saturday

Well, we’ve learned something: I was the last domino to fall. We thought that either I was the first (undiagnosed) case or I would be the last. Friday night my test came back positive. I’ve been isolating last night and today. I’m hoping that by tomorrow I’ll be feeling better. I was on a slow slide downhill starting Wednesday night and then congestion building Thursday and Friday. My congestion is actually better today, but my overall state is worse: more tired and low energy.

Updated Wednesday

I think we’re finally in the clear. Ian had a false alarm yesterday, with a test that showed positive, but then a re-test that was negative. Everyone either has a very faint line (to be expected) or no line at all. I had dinner with the family for the first time and Tammy slept upstairs for the first time last night. Hopefully things will get back to normal now, whatever normal is.
