Merry Christmas 2014

Today is our second Christmas in Calgary. Unlike last year, we barely have any snow. Most of it has melted away and there are a few skiffs of ice here and there.
Miranda and Ian let us sleep in until 8 this morning. I’m not sure how early they got up, but it was after 4.30 when I was downstairs steaming my lungs and setting up the coffee maker.
We made our way downstairs and opened our stockings. Miranda had made her bears and Ian’s Ted each a stocking and Santa actually filled them. They all got a brand new robe. Ted’s matches Ian’s robe. 🙂 After stockings Simon made blueberry pancakes and some facon for breakfast. Around 9 we started opening presents and by 9.55 we were finished. We Skyped Dad and Carol in Mexico. Carol has been suffering from a cold, so we hadn’t talked to them on Skype for a long time. They looked and sounded good. Some of their friends down there made them a traditional Mexican Christmas dish called pozole as a gift. It looked really good. I may have to try my hand at it. The kids showed them all their gifts and thanked them for the money.
A little after that we Facetimed with Simon’s folks and repeated pretty much our Skype call with Dad and Carol.  Thank you for the kids’ money.  They are enjoying their gifts from it.  Thank you for the money; my new snowboard boots feel so much better than my old ones.  Hopefully they’ll improve my moves on the slopes.  😀  Simon has yet to decide what to do with his.
After that we got busy putting together our turkey dinner. We had to thaw the turkey a little in some hot water. It’s amazing how good our garage is at keeping things chilled. While we waited for the food to cook we played a new game Santa brought us called Castle Panic. It’s a good game because all of us can play. It takes about an hour to play, at least our version did.
Later we had our turkey dinner with sweet potatoes, sprouts, cranberry sauce, roasted red potatoes, home made stuffing, and gravy.  For dessert we had mincemeat tart with rum sauce.  It was all very delicious.
The rest of our evening has been a mix of playing with our new toys, walking on the treadmill, and relaxing.  Tomorrow is boxing day and maybe taking down our tree. We’ll give great-grandma a call to thank her for the money for the kids and to wish her a happy holidays.

Thank you to everyone and Merry Christmas.

  1. And we took our walk on the beach and watched the pelicans fishing, got wet from a couple of waves and generally enjoyed our afternoon.

  2. Hi & Merry day after boxing day! I wasn’t at the computer yesterday so news is fresh. It sounds like you had a very nice Christmas. Ours was quiet but enjoyed it all the same. Dinner at Stephanie’s was yummy and we got to see all the kid’s gifts. Thank-you for the gift certificate, most generous.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday. Love from Mom & Dad/ Nana & GRANDPA
