Scooter for Dad, Coho for Ian

The last week or so, Dad’s been looking into getting a mobility scooter. For the last few months his dizziness has been leading to more falls, and that’s cut back on his walking, which has led to fewer trips, and more driving… A scooter seemed to be a way to gracefully deal with the reality of his health and not be constantly driving to the coffee shop, etc. He’d been looking into whether or not his insurance would help cover it, etc. But that was going to lead to delays, and there was a good, used scooter that met his needs for sale at the place in Langford. When Dad and I drove (!) to the coffee shop this morning, his friend Deena spoke to me about it. She is a retired caregiver and she thought that he needed to stop waffling about it and get it done.

Dad and I went over to the scooter place, and he test rode the one, and ended up buying it and bringing it home.

It’s a nice red colour. He’ll have to get used to driving it. It’s nice and maneuverable, and is compact enough that it should fit into his life.

After lunch, Ian and I rode down to the Trek Bicycle shop where the package pickup was for the ride tomorrow. We took the Galloping Goose. The weather was great for the ride. After the package pickup, we went down to the harbour and waited for the Coho ferry to appear. Ian had checked the schedule, and he figured it should arrive around 2:30. He was right.
