A Work Anniversary and Dad’s Continuing Slide

It’s been over 19 years since I started at Esri Canada, but I’m not the person in the Calgary office with the most seniority: that honour belongs to Michelle, who has just passed her 20 year anniversary. There was a lunch for her at the James Joyce Pub on Monday that I got to attend. It was nice to be there and have a lot of people together. There are a lot more people in the Calgary office now, but this is a good cross-section of the people that Michelle has worked with. She came to Calgary only 3 months after we did, moving from Toronto.

And in other news, Dad’s continuing to have issues. On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, he was wandering.

(David) was up wandering around  the building again at 1AM, sent back to his room, was found downstairs again at 3AM, sent back to his room, downstairs at 4AM and refused to go back up to his room. Karen found him sleeping in the lobby when she arrived at 6:30AM.  She got him back to his room and told him to stay there till the workers could come back and help him. She said she is handling it for now.

This is a problem: he can’t stay in assisted living for much longer at this rate. Stephanie had him on the waitlist for long term care (LTC) but it’s likely 6-9 months before something comes up through regular channels. If they test Dad for dementia and he fails, then he will be expedited, but he might end up just about anywhere.

Tammy and I talked it over with Stephanie last night. We have a few levers to pull, but mostly it’s wait and see.
