Due to having a VERY good friend that introduced me to the Maine Coon community and the owner of Turtle Valley Maine Coons, I had an opportunity to be a proud momma of a European Maine Coon! As circumstance would have it she was downsizing her cattery due to a move happening next year (to the island) to get away from the firestorms that kept happening in her area. She almost lost her home.

After back and forth banter between my friend, the breeder and myself, I was promised a beautiful Torbie Maine Coon. During these discussions I discovered that another cat (the sister) who was going to be a pet to the breeder was coming available. They lady who wanted it was not a favourite option for the breeder. One word from my friend Jenn and she was offered to me. The breeder was impressed with my setup at home and dedication to my current babies and the thought of having her grow up with her sibling was a bonus. She was “shy and reserved” and the breeder was worried about her. I had always toyed with the idea of having sibling cats but it never was in the cards throughout the years. Now was a perfect, albeit expensive, opportunity! What made me say yes (besides the cuteness) was the fact I was getting some backpay from the employer from our recent contract negotiations and Tristan got a bit of a raise as well. The sneaky thing about this all? I didn’t tell the family about the second cat (evil laugh ensuing)

Fast forward to Sept 15, 2023. Brianna and I had booked a ferry for 7am and drove straight to Chase, BC. Turtle Valley is to the east of Chase. Beautiful scenery was all around us with some smoke.

When we got to the dirt road going up to her house the devastation was clearly visible from the fires

We got to the Cattery and met the breeder Marcie. Lets just say Brianna was uber surprised and excited for the 2 coming home not just the one! We didn’t stay long because we had to blaze our way back to the ferries and had construction zones and traffic in Abbotsford to get through.

The trip back was not a pretty one. One cat barfed and the other had nervous-explosive diarrhea 🙁 We made the 9pm ferry but were in the bottom so couldn’t stay in the car. Got home and the first thing on the list was to give the exploding kitten a bath. By the time we had things done it was about midnight. Tristan woke up and wanted to see the new edition. When he discovered there were two he was gobsmacked. Happy but stunned.

For the first few days we had them in Brianna’s room, but they settled in nicely and were bounding around in no time (definitely NOT shy or reserved). They have been christened with the names Juno (tabby markings) and Binx (two-faced) both girls.

They since have moved into Zach’s room since he’s staying at his dad’s place to go to college. We have been slowly introducing them to Twinkie and Willow. Some growling and hissing but it’s going pretty well so far.

So far we are blending and having fun! Juno is definitely more outgoing and a very loud purr-box. Binx can be wild when playing but has a softer demeanour and a quieter purr. Both have stolen out hearts

  1. Are we going to have a pool betting on how big they get when fully grown?!?!! 😁 They look like lovely fur babies. Can’t wait to meet them in person.
